Almost all parents in today’s tech-centered society will deal with the question of whether to share photos of their kids and family members online. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, or a host of other social media platforms there are often questions that arise and issues that go well beyond just sharing a smiling picture of your child playing ball. Phil and Simon each have their own approach when it comes to sharing pictures publicly and we will talk about what we do, which platforms we use, and some of the benefits as well as drawbacks of putting our precious memories online for the world to see.

You made a great point about the possible repercussions that may affect children when they get older having so much of their early years posted on Social Media. I think parents as well as grandparents need to carefully think about and consider how children may feel about the images when they are fully grown. I will be carefully thinking about my motivations before posting photos on Social Media. Great program, thanks!

Thank you for your comment Debbi, and I’m glad you liked the episode. I think it’s so common for people to post pictures that we don’t always think about the long-term repercussions or especially how our kids might feel about sharing all these pictures when they are older. I know I would have been embarrassed if my parents has shared some of the pics they took of me when I was younger with everyone they knew! I keep coming back to the idea that we can always choose to share more if we feel like it, but it’s hard to un-share photos that we put online so it never hurts to take a more cautious approach.
